“Romeo and Juliet”
The play of Romeo and Juliet is based around Fate, Love and Misery. Throughout the play all of the above are clearly shown.
The following essay is going to explain the way that Juliet’s emotions change throughout Acts 3 and 4.
So far Juliet has been betrothed to Paris on the forthcoming Thursday, but at a party held by her father a Capulet, Juliet sets eyes on Romeo. The connection of eyes lead to love at first sight, but unfortunately for Juliet, Romeo is a Montague and the families get on like cats and dogs. But even though both families would never accept that they are in love, they still decide to get married. Romeo in all his excitement of being married runs and tells Juliet’s cousin Tyblat. Tyblat has earlier killed Romeo’s close friend Mercutio, and in his outrage has killed Tyblat, the only problem is that anyone from either families kill one from the other will be put to the death. So Romeo and Juliet who have been married less than day, decide to spend a last night together, before Romeo must leave the city.
This part of the play is extremely important, because it’s a massive turning point, and just as things were going well, its starts going down hill. At the start of Act3 Scene5 both Romeo and Juliet were happy for the last time in the play, because they have just spent their last night together. After the time Romeo has left the city, both will never see each other alive again. The tragic events that follow lead to the death of both of them.
At this point Juliet is going through a rollercoaster ride of emotions. She is portraying sadness due to the fact that Romeo is leaving, happiness because she is with Romeo, worried because she knows morning has come and immaturity because she believes the song of the bird she hears is that of a Nightingales, but is then brought back to sadness when Romeo swiftly corrects her by saying it is the lark of the bird of the morning. She is then not a 100% sure whether she will see Romeo again, but this is also where a bad omen to the audience comes in because she states “Methinks, I see thee, now thou art so low, as one dead in the bottom of a tomb.” Her stating this also comes through the whole story being based around fate, because she is foreshadowing to the already destined event these two lovers will soon face death.
The entry of Juliet’s mother causes Juliet’s emotions to have a massive nose
