Romeo and Juliet is a wonderful story that has been around for a long time. It is a great tragedy that has been read in high schools, and has been played many of times. I don’t believe that there is a person who has been through high school without hearing about Romeo and Juliet. In this paper, one should learn about the plot, characters, settings, themes, and symbolisms in this play.

The exposition is when a fight between the Capulets and Montagues break out. A Montague tries to stop the fighting, but he just gets himself involved when a Capulet, Tybalt, comes on the scene. After citizens try to stop the fight, Prince Escalus, the ruler of Verona, tries to prevent any further conflicts between the families by saying that if any other fight breaks out that the only thing he will do is bring death to everyone involved. His words meant nothing to the families because the fights still went on afterward (Bloom 5).

The rising action is when Romeo and Juliet meet at the Capulet house. They greet each other and carry on a conversation. Neither one of them know they are talking to someone of their families rival. They soon fall in love that one night. Romeo goes to the garden and listens as Juliet confesses her love for him. Then, Romeo says he wants to get married. Soon later, they get married at the church (6).

The climax is when Juliet takes the poison to make herself seem dead for forty-eight hours. The plan was to fake death so she didn’t have to marry Paris, and then later run off with Romeo, who had been exiled from Verona due to killing Tybalt. The plan went horribly wrong because the messenger that was supposed to tell Romeo of the fake death never got to him. So, Romeo thought Juliet was really dead and got some poison that would kill him. He took the poison that killed him, at the tomb where Juliet was fake dead, but first he had to kill Paris, who was guarding the tomb (Exploring 2).

The falling action was when Juliet woke up from her fake death. She saw Romeo lying there beside her dead. She was so deeply hurt from knowing that she had been the reason why her husband killed himself. So, in her love for Romeo, she grabbed a knife and killed herself (Bloom 7).

The resolution picks up right after that. Everyone walks in and sees Romeo and Juliet lying there dead. They realized how foolish their fights between their families were. So they agreed to end them there and to never fight again. They also made two golden statues of their children standing side by side in memory of their lost children (9).

To start it off, Romeo is the son of the house of Montague, which is a wealthy Verona family. His family is in a huge fight between his family and the Capulets, who are another family in the city. Romeo is a very

romantic young man who falls in love with Juliet despite the fact that she is in the Capulet family. They secretly get married, but Romeo gets exiled from the city. He hears of Juliet’s death and goes to the tomb and commits suicide (Romeo and Juliet Navigator: 3-4).

Next, Juliet is a tough minded and courageous girl who is deeply in love with Romeo. Her father not knowing that she is secretly married to Romeo plans for her to marry Paris. She didn’t want to marry him but she couldn’t tell her father that. So, Juliet comes up with a plan to take some poison that will make her seem dead for a while to escape the wedding. Her plan went wrong because the message that was supposed to inform him of her fake death never got to him. When Romeo hears of her death he hurries to the tomb and takes some poison that kills him. When Juliet wakes up and sees her dead husband lying on the ground next to her tomb she stabs her self with a dagger and dies (4).

Last, Tybalt is the nephew of Juliet’s mother. He is an extremely violent young man. He fights and kills one of Romeo’s friends Mercutio. In furry of the death of his friend, Romeo kills Tybalt. Because of this murder, Romeo is exiled from the city (4-5).

One of the first settings was at Capulet’s house. Capulet was holding a party for Paris and Juliet to meet each other. Romeo and his friends snuck into the party and wore masks to hide their identity. They

couldn’t let anyone inside the party know that they where in the Montague family. Even though they were wearing masks, Romeo’s voice was recognized by Tybalt. He asked for his sword and said he would kill Romeo then and there. This is when the hatred between Mercutio and Tybalt started. Fortunately for Romeo and his friends, Old Capulet stepped in to stop the fight claiming that they were causing no harm and behaving appropriately. Then, the party went back to normal. They came to the party to try and make Romeo meet knew women. This was where Romeo and Juliet first meet. Romeo saw Juliet
