The Great Gatsby Personal Response
Illusion and reality have distinct fundamental differences between the two, although they lay upon some comparable principles as each other. Illusion is based on having a false idea or belief on a subject, while reality is the state of having existence. Some could argue that illusion only interferes with one's reality when their hopes and dreams are out of reach. When a deceptive impression battles with actuality, the individual is bound to be wound up in conflict and terror. When an individual refuses to face reality, illusion helps them battle with themselves. This allows individuals to achieve a sense of ease and comfort in the augmented reality that they created for themselves. Reality, however gives you proper existence of facts opposed to the dreams you create to comfort yourself. This can occasionally be too much for an individual to handle and push them over the edge. The toll that illusion and reality can take upon an individual can alter their entire life.
In the image “Reccesion” by Carrie Schneider the conflict between illusion and reality is explored. The female portrayed in the image is battling with fantasy and reality as she is pictured wanting what she can’t have. The photograph portrays that the individual is lost in a unachievable illusion. The glass signifies the barrier between reality and illusion, with the individual being trapped on the side of reality. However, it is evident that the lady would clearly do anything to cross this barrier and go into the world of reality and achieve what she wants. When battling with reality and fantasy, one's desires become clouded with what they cannot achieve. They begin to believe that the illusion they created is actually reality, choosing to ignore the real world. This system of belief can have very negative impacts upon an individual's life causing them to crash and burn.
