First Assignment – First Reflective Journal (15 marks)

Content:

Every student will compile news cuttings and editorials from reliable sources about the cultural environment in Hong Kong, and will write short synopses and commentaries in answering this question – “If you were allowed to create a new festival in Hong Kong to reflect its unique culture, what would you propose?”

You may use a Word file to organize your notes, news cuttings and/or useful materials you have collected so far and put them in your journal. Try to demonstrate your deep understanding and critical thinking skills on the topic. Where possible, use graphics and/or diagrams to illustrate your thoughts in a lively way.

Format:

There is no specific limit to format of this journal except that the first page of your journal must be a title page and the respective assessment rubric must be given at the back of the title page when hardcopy is submitted.

Word limit:        Around 1000 words

Submission Date and Channel:

Please put your journal in a WORD file and upload it to the Moodle platform before 12 noon on October 5, 2015 (Monday). No change is allowed after the deadline. You should also submit a hardcopy of your journal to the location specified by your instructor before 5 pm on the same day.

Assessment:

Assessment of the journal will be based on a rubric specifically designed for the assignment. A maximum of 15 marks will be awarded in accordance with the performance of the student.

Important Notes:

Plagiarism will not be tolerated, will result in failure of the entire course, and be referred to the student disciplinary committee. Students shall be aware of the University regulations about dishonest practice in course work and the possible consequences as stipulated in the Regulations Governing University Examinations.
