The Oddysseys

Dear Film Directors,

        I am in the process of trying to make a new movie. The story I am going to loosely transform is Homer’s epic poem, The Odyssey. The Odyssey is one of the first epic poems. Almost everyone has either read parts of the book or heard stories about it. This epic poem was one of the first to have humor, action, and monsters. I would like to change the plot of the story and loosely adaptate The Odyssey in a movie called The Trip. The Trip will be about a family who goes through some difficulties while their father is on a business trip.

The Trip is based on a modern day family in the 20th century. The Austin’s has and have lived in Knoxville, Tennessee for over a hundred and fifty years. The Austin family has been well known throughout the United States for many years. They own a huge business dealing with doctors supplies.  Chase Austin is the new CEO after his father retired. Chase is a lot like Odysseus. He is married to his faithful wife Caitlyn who is in reference to Penelope, and they have a daughter named Bailey and a son named Gabe. Chase being the new CEO is going to have to travel all over the United States to tell people about the great products this family business makes. Except on this big trip Chase, like Odysseus, has difficulties staying on task and getting the job done.

        During this film, Chase is going to have trouble staying loyal to his wife while he is gone traveling for a month. He is going to have troyble staying loyal to his wife because he has been gone for so long. He has not seen here in a while. Chase is going to get a little bored with going to and from conferences and describing the product him and his family have been selling for multiple years now. He decides to start going to clubs and bars in his spare time to have a little fun. Except Chase’s idea of fun starts to get out of hand. He starts going whenever he does not have to work, therefore, he is getting drunk. This will become a problem that Chase cannot control. When Chase gets drunk, he hangs out with other women and gets a bit flirty. One time Chase is at a bar, and there is band with a gorgeous lead singer. He starts listening to her music and instantly falls in love with the lyrics and her voice. Mr. Austin obviously wants to get to know this girl and he does. This is in reference to Odysseus with the Sirens. Odysseus cannot handle himself when he hears these beautiful voices. The idea of Chase having an affair is unfortunately something a lot of people can relate to, whereas, being on a ship with the temptation of gorgeous ladies is not.
