Dear Mayella Ewell,
I'm Jem Finch, the proud son of Mr. Atticus Finch. I'm not sure if you remember me, but if you do, I know you will probably want to throw this letter out when you remember me or who my father was. I don't know if you realize how much pain and drama that your actions caused for our small town. Maybe if you can realize what you did, then you can change it. No, you cannot change the past, but you can redeem yourself here in the future and prove to everyone that you can do the right thing. Another thing is I would like to point out the great opportunities you had during the trial that you may not even know about now. You had so much power and you didn't use it, mainly because you were never aware of it. Being the compassionate, stubborn person that I am, I have pondered these issues over the years, and I thought that I would let you know the opportunities you had then- and the opportunities you have now. Your fear and ignorance that you were unfortunate to have had at the time destroyed Tom Robinsons life and his families life. Because of your decisions, you got an innocent man sent to jail. You were scared that your father would kill you because you made a move on a black man. You lied and said Tom Robinson tried to rape you. Your lies caused more than you probably know or could think of, and that is a shame.
When I replay the events of the trial in my mind, I can't help but to think of the selfishness that you displayed . It was your fault you made a move on a black man especially when you knew that it was against the law. You should have taken the consequences and not just put it off on someone else and another family. You cost a man his life, a wife her husband, and children their father. Even if it was a black mans life, a black mans wife, and a black mans children, their still people, and just because that was the easiest target at the time, you shouldn't have done it. I truly think that it's time you appreciate life and stop wasting it being uneducated, and ignorant towards the rest of the world. There are so many people who cannot
have life, such as Tom Robinson . Your taking advantage of the life that was given to you, and just wasting it all away like it
