Argumentation Essay Final Draft
Illegal Immigrants
Thousands of immigrants come to The United States every year, seeking a better living. Immigrants are very important part of the United States. There are two different types of immigrants. For example, there are those who come to the United States entering illegally and those who overstay their visas. Illegally entering refers to “border crossing”. A common method of border crossing is to hire a professional organization to smuggle illegal immigrants across the United States borders (www.immigration.laws.com). What is overstaying a visa? Overstaying a visa is when an individual entered the United States in a legal fashion but stayed beyond the allotted time period. Roughly five million immigrants entered America with a legal visa (www.immigration.laws.com). I believe illegal immigrants should be allowed to stay in the United States because they’re escaping poverty in their countries, they help the economy, and because they want a better future.
First, immigrants come to America because their countries don’t have enough jobs and they are poor. Immigrants come to America to find jobs. Jobs that their countries don’t provide for them. Immigrants enter because of the employment opportunities that this country offers. Through employment-base immigration, a U.S employer can sponsor an individual for a specific position where there is a demonstrated absence of U.S. workers (www.thegrambanite.com). Often times an employer will prefer to hire an illegal because they could be paid without documentation, usually under the states minimum wage, allowing the employer the opportunity to avoid taxation (www.immigration.laws.com). Most immigrants that come to work in the United States make money to send it to their families back home. Some come to work and pay off debts that they have in their countries.
Second, I believe immigrants are a very important part of the economy in the United States. If immigrants were to leave the country, there would be a massive drop in the economy. Immigrants were many hats in the American society. They are family members, students, workers, business owners, investors, clergy men, and members of the armed forces (www.thegrambinite.com). Immigrants take the opportunity to start businesses. According to the small business administration, immigrants are thirty percent more likely to start a business in the United States than a non-immigrant (www.whitehouse.gov). Immigrants also boost earnings for American workers. Between 1990 and 2004 increased immigration was correlated with increasing of Americans by 0.7 percent and is expected to contribute to an increase of 1.8 percent over the long term (www.whitehouse.gov). Also immigrants pay taxes and by paying taxes they benefit most Americans who seek government assistance.
Third, immigrants should be allowed to stay in the United States so they can have better futures, the majority of immigrants that enter the United States is to have a better life. They come here to work hard and to support their families. They come to progress in life. Today, professional people commonly emigrate because of opportunities here. Many doctors, nurses, numerous engineers, and scientist have moved to the United States (www.yale.com). A lot of them find a job and strive to buy a home. They try their best to give their children a decent education and give them opportunities not available in their native land (www.yale.com). Most immigrants have gotten very far after coming here, some even own multiple businesses and are very successful in this country.
