How was the annexation of Texas related to slavery?

Texas had a southern ideology toward slavery, technically slavery was illegal in Mexico but that didnt stop Texas from owning slaves. In the 1830's Texas had about 5000s slaves living there mostly in the eastern part of the state were plantations were more abundant. During this time the British were buying there cotton from The American south since it was cheap mostly because at that time Americans didn't pay there worker hence the word slave so they could sell it cheap. But with time came change the idea of slavery became wildly unpopular in England and they began to look for other alternatives besides American cotton. With that Texas seemed like the answer only if Texas set its slaves free England was so determined to gain support from Texas that they were willing to pay a compensation that would in turn emancipate all slaves in Texas. The United States was not a fan of this so the president at the time john tyler proposed a bill to annex Texas in order to stop the emanicaption of slaves in Texas which would undermined slavery in the United States.
