The topic of Iraq has this country, and most Americans split down the middle. Where do you literally draw the line in the sand? As the years keep adding and the costs at the same rate, this has become one of America's longest and most expensive wars. Who do we hold responsible for each American death overseas? This is a departure from my normal take on Iraq and the current administration, simply to weigh the responsibility.
In an article I read in the NYT magazine edition it said that Bin Laden holds the American people responsible for the Presidents mistakes and I think the argument holds water. If we are a democratic nation, a representative democracy, then the President speaks and acts for all of us. Iraq is on our shoulders. The shoulders of whoever voted for, not only the president, but local and state officials as well. This in itself gives justification to anyone who disagrees with our foreign or domestic policy, to attack the civilian population.
