Summer Reading Essay
Growing up with parents who have had cancer can affect how one views Life. When I was the innocent age of five, my mother was diagnosed with breast cancer. My world was filled with fear. As she battled and fought through the disease, my fears turned to hope and trust. A few years later, my dad learned he had prostate cancer. This time, our family was a little less anxious and a lot more courageous. He was treated and regained his strength. However, one more hurdle would arise; a few months later my mom would face stage III colon cancer. Although this cancer was the most serious one of the three, after an initial cry, our resolve as a family was ‘bring it on’! My mom had to actually ‘do the fighting’, but we were her support.
