The Glorious Revolution

In 1660, England was at the brink of civil war once again. And in 1688 the country was overrun by a foreign army. In 1688, the king of England was James. Some of England’s nobles invited the Dutch leader, William, to come to England. William was married to Mary, James’ protestant daughter. When William and Mary arrived in England they brought an army with them, and James took his wife and son and fled to France. When England’s king fled, the crown was offered by Parliament to his nephew and son-in-law. In February 1689, the Convention of Parliament voted that James II had given up, that William and Mary should be offered the crown.

The Glorious Revolution was in 1689, this revolution was also called the Bloodless Revolution because in this war there was no bloodshed. In 1685, James II was announced king of England, and in 1687, he issued a Declaration of Indulgence. The king of England was James by the 1688.
