Why Are Veils Restricted
In England in 2006 a Muslim woman -a British citizen- was removed from her job as a schoolteacher because she wore a veil. The stated reason was that the veil prevented her from effectively communicating with children. What do you think of the view that a woman has a right to wear a veil, but when she enters marketplace she may rightly be denied certain jobs? What are your reasons?
Veil is neither a hat nor a mask, a veil is a veil. ‘‘In England in 2006 a Muslim woman -a British citizen- was removed from her job as a schoolteacher because she wore a veil’’. The Islamic scarf controversy has been issued for decades. Veil is a necessity for Muslim women because it is mentioned in the Coran. They wear veils to identify religions, sexuality, and themselves. On the other hand, in a country which separates church and state, some people oppose to allow women wear veils during work hours. The freedom of religion should be guaranteed; therefore, a woman should have the right to wear a veil regardless of time, place, and occasions.
To understand religions in other countries, having a common understanding is vital. People of Islam get a holiday on Fridays and Saturdays, and Christian take a day off on Saturdays and Sundays. In Malaysia, people with different religions have their own vacation. This is rational not only because the employers will respect others, but someone is always moving the company, which is very efficient.
The idea of separating church and state is to restrain the government to actualize the freedom of religion. The government should not be involved with religion and must stay unconcerned. This system fundamentally works, however, when the two functions intersect and collide with each other, it will bring an opposite effect to what was intended. Collision is inevitable so people are required to reach a compromise.
In Coran, it is written that "Tell thy wives and thy daughters and the women of the believers to draw their cloaks close round them...’’.
