College Essay Reynosa, Tamaulipas

I was born and raised in Mexico. Most of my childhood happened in Reynosa, Tamaulipas. The environment there isn’t all glamorous. Having to go to school and every other day hearing gun shots or seeing drugs transactions on a daily basis wasn’t the environment someone should be in. My parents knew they had to search for better opportunities. My father follows the American dream and for that I am thankful. He had to spend 21 years on his company for him to be able to come to the U.S. He left his hometown in hope of a better future, leaving family and loves ones behind.

Coming to the U.S and seeing how things moved around here and making a comparison with Mexico, I’m bless. The environment is completely different, in Mexico there’s no help in the community, everybody hates on each other and always tried to bring your successes down. There’s no much opportunity on jobs and the jobs that are available aren’t appropriate for students. Economically Mexico isn’t the best and conditions on living are very harsh. Instead in the U.S people see the same opportunities as you do and help you out if you need.  The fact that people here in the U.S has never put me down on anything I have said that I wanted to do has shaped me to another level. There more jobs here and they work with your schedule, also economically you live much better.

My family is one of the most important things of my life. They have help me in every occasion. My parents would never leave me alone even in the hardest situation. Whatever I need they always have a way to provide it. My brothers, they have my back in every way. My family is all I got and everything I do, I do it for them and for myself so we all can live better lives. In my house everything is really calm. We don’t have rules. My parents don’t push me to do anything I don’t like. They always let us be liberal in our decisions and they support us even if it’s not their likings. Everybody helps each other and no one is left alone. As any family we encounter problems. The only differences that we know how to communicate and problems doesn’t seem to harsh due to that. Everything that I’ve been through, coming to the U.S and have to adapt to here, Learning the language, to the culture as well as been hard, and my family were the ones that help me go through it. I love my family and all my work evolves around them.
