This book is about the affects teenage drinking and driving has on people’s lives.

Darcy is a senior in high school. She is full of life and liked by everyone. She is dating Shad. He is the high school quarterback. He comes from a wealthy family and is an only child. Shad has started drinking and driving. His coach has found out about it and suspended him from the team for a couple of weeks.

Darcy knows that something is up but she doesn’t want her parents or her uncle to know. She wants to protect Shad because she likes him. On the way home from school Shad almost runs over Darcy. Her brother Nate wants to tell their parents but Darcy pleads with him to keep it quiet. Shad would never intentionally hurt Darcy.

As time goes on, Shad’s situation gets worse. Darcy begins to realize that Shad has a serious drinking problem. She tells Shad that they shouldn’t see each other anymore. Her uncle Randy is on to Shad and tells Darcy to be careful. She keeps having this thought come to her head that something bad is going to happen and she needs to help Shad.

Darcy is singing in church one Sunday and meets her friends brother who has just come home from a mission. They are instantly attracted to each other and start dating. When Shad finds out, he is furious. He starts drinking even more.

One night Shad and Todd are out driving around and Shad is drinking. They get in a wreck. Luckily no one gets hurt. Shad blames the whole thing on Todd. Shad’s dad gets him a lawyer and gets him off with only a fine of $200. Todd realizes that Shad has a real problem and stops hanging
