Setting
The setting in this book I liked the most was the scene where Alice and her friend Chris run away to San Francisco to start a new life. On page 56 Alice and Chris sneak off in the middle of the night, Alice doesn’t write a date, however she tells us the bus she is taking is leaving at 4:30 a.m. I think I like this part because they both want to leave and start a new life, and when someone is in a bad position as themselves, I think it’s only right that they get to start a new life. I also like this setting because even though there apartment is ugly, they barely have any money, and they have no family, they still seem to keep there heads up. Eventually they get a bit more successful, getting jobs, money, meeting people and everything seems to be going very well for them. However in life nothings ever perfect and there’s always going to be that someone or something to mess it up, and there so called “friend” really messed things up for both the mature grown up girls. This mess up brought the girls right back to where they started, and right back to where they use to live, back at home with there families.
Conflict
Self  Self - The conflict I chose, is when Alice thinks that she is pregnant. This is definitely a conflict for her. On august 6th, when Alice was only 15 years of age, she got high and lost her virginity to Bill (a boy she had only recently met). All she could talk about for a very long time was “what if I’m pregnant?” “I certainly couldn’t stand it if I had to leave school like ______ had to last year. The kids talked about it for weeks after”. Obviously Alice is very worried about her appearance, and when she believes she is pregnant it causes a very big conflict for herself. Not only does she worry but also she starts taking sleeping pills and tranquilizers to make her sleep and forget about what happened.
CharacterCharacter- The conflict I chose between 2 characters was richie(Alice’s boyfriend) and Ted ( Chris’ boyfriend). I cose these to as a conflict because If Alice and Chris didn’t walk into the two boys making love, then Alice and Chris would of never ran away to San Francisco. This is a conflict because not only did it hurt Chris and Alice, it also hurt there families, there friends, and im sure it hurt Ted and Richie.
Climax
The high point of this book is where Alice has her bad trip, which she explains about on page 144-145. I tink this is a very important part of the book, because after all the drugs she has done, she has never actually had a bad trip before, and when she has this trip it is bad. Her trip was purposly done by someone who was angry with Alice. While Alice was babysitting, a girl put acid on penuts, and Alice ate thoe penuts which led her to a horrible trip, that afterwards sent her to an insane assylum. However there was more than one climax to this story. The other high point of this book is when Alice dies. They don’t know if it was an accidental overdose or a premeditated overdose, but the main point was that she died, and that she was only one of the many that die from drug abuse.
