In the Shadow of Plenty

By George Grant

In the Shadow of Plenty by George Grant, George tells us about the war on poverty and how we as Christians need to do something about it. From scriptures he tells us what we can do. He makes these scriptures easier to understand as well.

Poverty has been here since Adam and Eve sinned in the Garden of Eden, when God pronounced judgement on them. “And He said to the man, “you listened to your wife and ate the fruit which I told you not to eat. Because of what you have done, the ground will be under a curse. You will have to work hard all your life to make it produce enough food for you” Genesis 3:17. God also gave them good news and charity though. “And the Lord God made clothes out of animal skins for Adam and his wife and he clothed them” Genesis 3:20. The Good Samaritan was a reminder of God’s caring heart, as we should also be.

To show charity, you have to work hard. Apostle Paul taught that work is the foundation of charity. “In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ we command these people and warn them to lead orderly lives and work to earn their
