Hi!
My name is Grace, and I would like to tell you about something that happened about a year ago.
I was about 13 at the time. I went riding with a friend of mine. The ice was slippery, so we couldn’t go up this hill we thought we knew how to go up, but I guess we didn’t know. I don’t like talking about it, so I’ll just say that my friend and her horse were killed.
I found out only 2 weeks later, because I was in a coma. My horse was in a really bad shape, but my mother kept him alive for some reason. Everybody said we should just put him out of his misery.
Anyway, I didn’t want anything to do with him. But of course my Mother didn’t understand it, so she had to take me all the way to Montana because she heard about some man that can communicate with horses or something.

Tom, the “whisperer”, started working with Pilgrim, my horse. I don’t think he knew we were coming, though mom said he did. I had to be there when he was working, so that the horse will know me again. I guess he was in shock after what happened. Tom said that he lost his faith in himself and in people, and that Pilgrim has to learn how to be a horse again.
So we stayed there for about a month or even more. Dad came to visit us once. I started to ride horses again. In the beginning nobody knew but Jo, but then he had a fight with his younger brother, and his brother just shouted it out. I went upstairs. That was the day I got my first period and I thought about what that meant. I was so mad at everybody,
