There are many controversial issues in the world. I had to choose one of them to discuss and tell everyone about and that is the good side of capitol punishment and why it should be allowed in our society. First off I am going to tell you what capital punishment is. Capital punishment means the death penalty. Capital punishment is banned in a lot of countries now a days because people think that it is morally wrong. There are many different types of capital punishment that have been used over the years that aren't around anymore.

In this speech I will explain to you the advantages of capital punishment and why it is needed in our society.

I. What is the history of Capital Punishment

A. Where exactly did it come from

1. The Bible prescribes death for murder and many other crimes including kidnapping and witchcraft. By 1500 in England, only major felonies carried the death penalty - treason, murder, larceny, burglary, rape, and arson. By 1700, however, Parliament had enacted many new capital offences and hundreds of persons were being put to death each year.

2. In the United States, Michigan was the first state to abolish it for murder in 1847. Today, it is virtually abolished in all of Western Europe and most of Latin America.

3. Most states in the United States have abolished the death penalty

4. A lot of places see the death penalty as murder and think that it is not morally sound

B. What are the different types of Capitol Punishment

1. Lethal Injection- this is the case in which a person is strapped down and injected with a poison that will kill someone in a matter of minutes. This is the more civil way of being put to death these days and people usually can watch.

2. Gas Chamber- this method is not really used today. This is where you are put into a room of solitary and a wave of gas is sprayed where you will choke and eventually die.

3. Electric Chair- this is the most famous and most controversial method of capital punishment in which you are strapped to a chair and several thousand volts of electricity will pass through your body until you are not breathing.

Let's talk about how we are affected by capital punishment today.

II. Why do we need capital punishment in our society
