Circumcision

In the United States majority of new born male babies are circumcised shortly after birth. This is because for a male in our society having a circumcised penis is the norm. Circumcision is the act of removing the foreskin, which is the skin covering the tip of the penis. This procedure is performed by a doctor and takes under ten minutes. It is usually performed on the first or second day after birth.

Circumcision was first practiced early in the 19th and 20th centuries all over Europe. It was used as a device to stop the child from having masturbatory insanity which was cause from masturbating. It was believed that cutting off this foreskin would reduce the pleasure factor in masturbating. This also has been a typically Jewish ritual to indicate the male coming into the Jewish faith. It has also been looked at that having a penis circumcised will reduce the risk for the male of having cancer. This practiced moved then to the United States when it was colonized. Since then it has always been the norm.

During the end of the 20th and the beginning of the 21st centuries this practice in most parts of the world began to die out except for in the United States, Australia, Arab countries, and some African countries. Now in most European countries it is normal for a male to have an uncircumcised penis. An uncircumcised would be a penis that still does have the foreskin that hangs over the tip of the penis. It is not only normal for boys in European countries to be uncircumcised, but it's almost a rarity for a circumcision procedure to occur in a hospital.

Circumcision never died out in the United States due to the fact that the medical community supported entirely. It is looked at that if the foreskin is no longer there is easier for male to keep the area clean.
