Flawless
Alison glanced out the window. Heavy thunder shocked the ground so hard she was certain there was going to be an earthquake any second. Alison curled her perfectly manicured fingers around the edge of her novel and tucked her skinny legs on her chair. It was an extremely abnormal afternoon for Rosewood, usually the sun would be out and shining all day. For a town that made everything so flawless, it was difficult to stand out, but somehow Alison did, with her beautifully diamond shaped face, sky-blue eyes and pouty lips, clearly she stood out. Not to mention her straight A’s in her reports and her extravagant charisma. Alison had a brother called Jason, Jason was the typical boy, gel-drenched strawberry-blonde hair and a major craze for lacrosse. Anyway, the town they lived in was a perfectionist town, with vast evergreen trees everywhere and of course, majestic beaches The only flaw is the beach, they say there is something awful in the sand dunes. Something vicious. Something unbelievable. Something so terrifying that no one, not a single soul has worked up the nerve to search for it.
“Ali! Can you drive Jason to lacrosse practice?” Alison’s mum called, her voice sounding very far away and breaking Alison from her train of thoughts.
“Um, mum?” Ali laughed nervously “I don’t have my drivers licence.”
“So what?” Alison could already detect the irritation in her mum’s voice. “Worst scenario, you’ll smash into a cow in the middle of the padlock. So what? Alison, honey you’ve got to start to take risks, Rosewood isn't Tokyo, all we’ve got is cows and sheep. Now off you go!” At that, she threw her jingling car keys to Alison.
Meanwhile, Jason stormed down the stairs, when he reached the bottom, he snatched his lacrosse cleats from the mahogany shoe box.
“I heard you're driving me to practice.” He winked at Ali.
Alison sighed dramatically. “Yep! Worst luck!”
They entered the Infiniti wordlessly and Alison began to drive, her hands gripping the steering wheel so hard that it was a wonder why it didn’t snap in half, the windscreen wiper was screeching on the windscreen. The afternoon storm dropping on the car like pebbles.
“Whoa.” Jason widened his emerald-blue eyes. “I think lacrosse practice would definitely be canceled in the weather.” He said sadly, pouting his lips vaguely.
Meanwhile, Alison was puzzled. “They haven’t had a deluge this here in Rosewood in ages.”
Jason creased his eyebrows slightly and peeked at Alison cautiously. “What’s a deluge?” He asked with curiosity.
Alison rolled her eyes. Typical Jason. She thought. “A deluge is like huge amount of rainfall,” She replied. ‘Don’t you ever listen in geography class?”
“Nope, I can’t say that I do” Jason smirked.
“Okay, that's it. I’m pulling over until the rain weakens, I can barely see anything.” Ali found a freeway exit sign and quickly steered in that direction. Then, she found a carpark nearby and pulled over.
“What is this place anyway?” Jason asked.
“I have no idea,” Alison squinted her eyes, making the most out of the silhouettes in the distance. “Are those……sand dunes?”
Jason’s mouth gasped open. “No! This isn't the creepy sand dune place, is it?”
“I-I don’t think so.” Ali stammered, hoping that Jason wouldn’t notice the shakiness in her voice.
Jason opened the door with a jerk. “Jason,” Alison caught his arm. “Wait until the rain stops, then we can go.” She begged.
“You can, I’m going now.”Then he stepped out of the car and slammed the door shut.
Gathering up her strength and courage, Alison locked the Infiniti and followed Jason, desperately willing for him to change his
