I want to argue against the legal driving age

Motor vehicle crashes are the leading cause for death in the U.S. I believe that a bad thing can happened to a perfectly innocent person, so with that in mind I think we should try to save as many teenagers lives as possible by insuring by the time they are behind the wheel they are ready for the responsibility given to them. We can prepare today's teens by making it mandatory that all teenage drivers abide by the strict guidelines set by the legislator in order to receive their license. We need to do something about this reoccurring issue before more teens die. Being sixteen gives a teenage a sense of control and power that they have never experienced before. In my opinion we should have the legislator pass a law stating that a teen can obtain an intermediate license and enforcing passenger restrictions while the teen is driving.

The statistics tell us that teens are more susceptible to distractions, which in careless mistakes. Teens are more likely than older drivers to underestimate hazardous situations. Another thing that that is on hand is that teens want to "fit in" and they make reckless choices that can result in death, like not wearing a seat belt or speeding. Plus when you speed it usually leads to leaving a shorter headway.

I do not believe that a student with unsatisfactory attendance record or a failing grade in the driver's education program deserves the right to be behind the wheel. It is an opportunity not a right and this should be taken seriously. This is no insignificant matter. You might say oh but a lot of parents need their child to drive the other kids around and especially in larger families. Would you rather have your child complain about not getting their way for a while or have a dead child for something as inconsequential as reckless driving. You might add that 10 U.S. teens ages 16 to 19 die in teen-driven car accidents every day.
