Initial research. What is leadership? Ideas may include: How is it different to management? Why is it important? Name three people whom you consider to be great leaders, and explain why.

• A process that respect,motivate and influence other people to achieve their goal and to guide them so as to work in bunch for the beneficial of society and organization is called leadership.

1. Management is where workers are forced to work by the manager for obtaining more profit to the organisation, whereas Leadership is where people are motivated and inspired to do a particular task and to face the challenges

2. Management is one where things are to be done in a right manner but leadership is one where right things are done by the leader and  motivate others to do the right things

I admire Mahender singh dhoni( captain indian cricket team),Abraham linchon and Swami Vivekanand all of these people have their own contribution for the welfare of the society.

Abraham linchon, a true leader in the U.S history. During civil war he himself visited the homes of martyrs of civil war and provide their family a proper support of food, cloth and shelter.

This week was the beginning week of our learning as in this week professor divided the whole class into groups of 4-5 people with different background, language, religion. And according to me to become a leader one should have a proper understanding of people to whom we are going to lead so according to me this was the step of understanding and convincing people of different backgrounds.

During this week professor has given us a group assignment and here I came to know that contribution in the group work or responding quickly to the task given to you is not the leadership but allotment of responsibilities and motivate your colleagues to perform that task and guide them in doing so  is real form of leadership.

I have got this information from the class and from my own personal experience.

Review. What are the three most important things I have learned so far aboutLeadership? Why are they important to me?

1. Leadership is about motivating and influencing other people not about ruling them.
2. Leadership in real is a form of guidance given for the welfare of society.
3. Taking decision for the welfare of group or organisation is a very important thing in leadership.

These things are important to me because all these three thing forms the basis of leadership according to me. And must be keep in mind to become a true leader.

Journal. What have I discovered about Leadership this week? Explain where you got the information: Class, experience, reading, TV etc.

One of the most important things, I learned about leadership is that honesty and trust are two body parts of leadership. Any individual can be leader if he is honest and people trust over him/her, an example to support my context is of Arvind kejriwal  a common man become the chief minister of Delhi (India) because of his honesty and trust which he build in mind of people he won the elections with over 90% votes.

I have got this information from the class and from my own personal experience.

During this week I read about Adolf Hitler a leader known for his barbaric actions but what I discovered from his personality is that leadership also means having clear thoughts of doing something and sharing your thoughts with other people and inspire them to support your thoughts.

I remember that during this week I was very busy in my school activities but somehow I manage myself and help one of my friend who was facing in linear programing one of our course topic in project tools, during same week, I read few lines of bill gates in some newspaper “As we look ahead into next century, leaders will be those who empower others” that means a leader in coming time will be one who empower other people through his/her teaching and support.

I got this information from reading “national post” newspaper and from the class.

What do you think are the important characteristics of a leader? Do I have some or all of those attributes?

During this week we were having project review check point in our leadership class and we had to present in front of the whole class, me and Prashant prepared the presentation with the help of hamid and bunny but now problem was that professor told us that only one person from a group will present, then took this responsibility and become a leader.

1. I learnt one thing that leadership is also about taking responsibility or stand up front. It’s about taking risk and coming out of your comfort zone.
2. Honesty and trust plays an important role in leadership
3. True leadership is about empowering others by your support and teachings.

Yes I have some of those attributes and I am sure I am a leader.

During this week we are taught about motivation in the class by our professor and out of different theories of motivation, I like expectancy theory the most and concluded something that is given below:

 The potency or affinity to behave in a particular way depends upon the power of a hope that the work will be followed by a certain result. The theory depends on three factors:

1. Effort tends to performance.

2. Performance tends to reward.

3. Rewards tends to individual goals

The week of presentations and I was having 4 different group projects in which I was working as an active member and I was leading one team of Business principle and I break the whole project work equally in all member but one of my team members was willing to perform the task which I wanted to do and when I came to know about this I immediately assign him that task because a beautiful line of E.M Kelly strike my mind that was “ leadership is getting someone else to do something that you want done because he wanted to do it “ and I apply that and the outcome of this was that he performed that task very well and quality of task was very good.

I got this information from my personal experience and from internet.

I had learned something new about leadership in this week, Odari Dixon one of my friend , classmate and leader of my planning and scheduling team was a very good and effective leader as he taught me very good lesson about leadership, we commit a mistake by deleting softcopy of our project, everyone was blaming each other  but as a team leader, odari  reflected true meaning of leadership by being humble and admit his mistake and prepare the whole project soft copy alone in single night, although it was the mistake done by all of us. The lesson learned from this is “leadership is about being humble and admit their mistake, without going into argument”

This information i have gathered from my own personal experience.

Three important things that i learned so far and changed my view of leadership are

!) A true leader is one who empowers others through guidance.

2) Leadership is something this about influencing and motivating others not about ruling them.

3) Having patience, being humble and honesty are the key characteristics of a leader.

In the beginning of semester my thought about leaders was that a” leader is a person who rule others and give them let others to follow him/her” which is entirely different my present thinking.

This change appeared because of different experiences that I had with different people and also due to classroom teaching and facts shared by professor and different students in the classroom.

Reflective. What does Leadership Mean to Me?

A process that admires, motivate and persuade other people to complete their goal and to guide them so as to work in group for the favor of society and organization is called leadership.

According to me leadership means the following :

Sharing of responsibilities and inspire your colleagues to carry out a task and direct them for performing that task is one form of leadership.

 According to me, having apparent vision of undertaking something and sharing your views with other individuals and encourage them to bear your thoughts is leadership

Empowering others through your assistance and imparting positivity to them is leadership.

Leadership is about being modest and confess your fault, without going into dispute.

 It is about bearing challenges and moving out of your soothe and work for the welfare of others.

Leadership is letting others to follow their hearts and directing them simultaneously so as to obtain quality work from them.

To become a good leader one must be a good follower.

Good leaders are those who took initiative and stimulate others to do so.

Characteristics

1.  Honesty and trust are important characteristics of leadership
2. Having endurance and being modest.
3. Positive thinking
4. Work for the wellbeing of the society

Motivation and leadership

 Motivation helps leaders to implements a policy for encouraging people to pursue them. They are involved in structuring a secure and healthy environment so as to obtain a high quality work. Leadership’s base principles describe that the leader should first have well-built morals, good values, genuine motivation to encourage teamwork and optimistic approach.

Leadership v/s management

Management is where workforce is put on to work by the manager for earning more return for the organisation, whereas Leadership is where people are stimulated and encouraged to perform a particular job and to face the challenges.

Management is one where things are to be done in a right manner but leadership is one where right things are done by the leader and motivate others to do the right things.

A funny quote about this is “a manager says go but a leader says let’s go”.

Examples of some successful leaders :

Nelson Mandela was the President of South Africa who was elected democratically in the south Africa history. He fought against racial inequity.  For this he went to jail for 30 years. He came out as a champion and gave the country a liberated and equal outlook. His willpower was marvellous that even after almost 30 years in jail; he came out and worked again for what was right.

Mahatma Gandhi important role in the independence of India from the rule of Britishers. He fought with non-violence. He believed that only truth win through without harming anyone. Civil disobedience movements, boycotts of foreign goods etc reflects his confrontation towards the British rule due to him continuous efforts British went out of India and Gandhi became one of the greatest leaders in Indian history.

Abraham Lincoln, a great and successful leader in the American history. During civil war he personally visited the homes of martyrs of civil war and offer their relatives an appropriate hold of groceries, cloth and protection.

Adolf Hitler a leader popular for his brutal behaviour but his personality depicts that leadership too means having clear view of undertaking something and sharing your beliefs with other people and motivate them to sustain your beliefs.
