Scholarship Essay
As a senior, I am honored to have the opportunity to apply for the scholarship; getting a scholarship in college is the icing on the cake. One of the most incredible gifts that I ever got was my dedicated parents who: urged me, motivated me and led me toward my academic accomplishments. They helped me understand the value of education and the infinite spectrum of possibilities it provides for success.
Since my childhood, I have always worked hard to get good grades in all my classes. For me, school is a place to explore. Education is an invaluable treasure and confidence is the key to success. In Bangladesh, I was very successful in school. I won the 1st prize in high school in a hand-writing competition. In addition, I also participated in a science fair when I was in 9th grade. When I was in 10th grade, I immigrated to America with my parents; it wasn’t an easy journey for me. I faced new obstacles and at one moment I slowly felt my self-esteem slip through my fingertips like sand. However, my determined parents didn’t let me fall behind and supported me each time I needed them.
Eventually, I picked up the sand again and I’m proud to have continued success in America. I got admitted to 11th grade; during my junior year, I received the Principal’s Award, Attendance Award, Citizenship Award and Excellence in Visual Arts Award. Moreover I have received the First Honors Award with an overall GPA of 3.83 during my senior year and a medal.
Besides focusing on studies, I’ve also served actively in my community. In 10th grade, the authority of my school organized a fund raising event where I was selected as the leader; I was responsible for the money that was raised. There was free dress day, mouth-watering food were brought and sold to teachers and students, and we made accessories and sold them. By the end of semester 1, we raised six hundred dollars which was then donated to an orphanage. I also took part in cultural organizations and art exhibitions which were organized by my school. In 12th grade, I participated in a diversity program and received the Diversity Day Award. Last summer, I volunteered in a pharmacy where I was blessed to have the opportunity to learn about medicines and communicate with patients which will significantly help me in future as I want to study Pre-Medicine.
