To what extent is globalisation a relatively new process in world politics?

In this essay, I will be attempting to explain to what extent is globalisation a relatively new process in world politics. The definitions of globalisation and it's history; from which can debated if there is an actual history to globalisation or is it just a recent process in world politics. Mercantilism was a prevalent economic strategy during the sixteenth century and up till the seventeenth century, because it supported the political structure and the economic circumstances of that time.
