Part 2: Essay

According to Watson, and National Bureau of Economic Research. (2008), alcohol drinking is taking of a beverage that contains some ethanol and causes euphoria. In The United States, performance was passed to set the legal drinking age at twenty-one. Some states though allow the legal drink age to be at eighteen. From the matrix above the reasons for and reasons against have been listed from the strongest reason to the weakest argument. On the column of grounds of the first strong argument is based on the United States laws and regulation.

According to the United States government, people who are above the age eighteen are referred to as an adult. They have the right to make a crucial decision about their life like voting. This is a strong point as to why the drinking age should be reduced. If one is allowed to make a decision on voting, then he or she should be allowed to make a choice between drinking and not drink.

The second reason is to control blood border. Some states have not agreed with the eighteen minimum age drinking act. This makes youth who are under the age of twenty-one to travel to those neighbouring countries for them to have access to alcohol. If the drinking age were reduced, young American who got injured due to alcoholism would seek for medical care. Thirdly is the growth of the economy. If the drinking age reduced, most youth would now be able to buy and drink alcohol in the licensed establishment legally. Though this the revenue collection would increase for the business owner and a significant amount of tax would be collected. The economy would grow as well due to tax revenue collections by the government (Wagenaar and Wolfson, 2010)..

Fourth if the drinking age were reduced, it would be easier for police and security guard to maintain law and order. Most of young American who are below the age twenty-one usually take alcohol while hiding. Some of them end up fighting and injuring each other while still in hiding, but if the age of twenty-one were made legal, then they would take beer in public with nothing to hide. The point is has a little bit of strength based on social impact. Fifthly young people are always curious to put to the test new things. When a law is made for people under the age of twenty-one not to drink alcohol, they will have the eager to drink. Lastly, young people who are at the age of eighteen are allowed by the law to get married. In the community, it does not sound well for a married man to be denied right to make the decision to drink or not to drink alcohol. The situation is awkward for the wedding as the man is not permitted to drink alcohol.
