Human development is scientific study of the processes of change and stability, in other words human development is a study of changes in behavior, personality as well as emotions. Furthermore, the study of human development began during the ninetieth centuries as researchers were curious on how development processed through adulthood and lifespan development (Papalia A child’s world pg 6). Therefore because of this it led to researches developing 5 theoretical theories on development, however only one will be discussed in this essay which Is the psychoanalytic theory by Sigmund Freud and Erik Erickson (Papalia A child’s world pg 26). In this essay an attempt will be made to describe the different approaches to human development. Firstly, the two psychoanalytical theories will be defined as well as mentioned. Moreover, the stages in each theory will be explained in depth. Following this, differences and similarities of each theory will be discussed in detail. Thirdly, the limitations of each theory will be explained as well as which theory is preferred in the 21st century by researchers.
