Mother Frances Cabrini

To be a living sacrament of Christ is a great honor. A sacrament is an outward sign of something sacred. My definition of a living sacrament is a human who is specially chosen by God to serve and set an example of how we all can help each other and the world. To me, to be a saint your inner soul which is not visible is sacred and as equal to a sacrament. On the other hand your body is what is the visible part.

The saint I selected is mother Frances Cabrini. She was born on July 15, 1850, in the town of San Angelo, south of Milan in Italy. She was the youngest of thirteen children. With her eight other sisters she founded the Missionary sisters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus.

Then from there, Pope Leo Xlll asked her to go to New York to help many of the new immigrants. When she arrived she was determined to start an orphanage but the archdiocese was doubtful. That did not stop her, her faith and determination kept her strong and allowed her to build the orphanage.

Then, for the next 28 years of her life she continued founding schools, hospitals, and orphanages. Many times she had to deal with obstacles like lawsuits, lack of funds, revolutions, etc. Her stories are now used to tell us how her faith helped her get through tough times.
