Religious Freedom- Abortion
The Importance of Religious Freedom
The church teaches that all life is sacred and must be protected. Life begins at the moment of conception, thus all types of abortion are considered violations of the doctrine of the Catholic Church. The United States law says that abortion is legal in all fifty states depending on how far along the woman is in her pregnancy. Planned Parenthood is the largest abortion provider in the United States. Catholic taxpayers fund the government, which provides funds to abortion clinics such as Planned Parenthood. The paying of these taxes go against the conscience of Catholic taxpayers nationwide. Abortion is the ending of human life, which is murder. Therefore, disobeying the sixth commandment: thou shall not kill.
Abortion is legal because of Roe vs Wade. Roe vs Wade was a legal case in 1973 that gave women the right to legally have abortions. Norma McCorvey, aka Jane Roe, had discovered that she was pregnant with her third child. This pregnancy was caused by an alleged rape. Texas’s law said that abortion was legal in the case of rape or incest, but because the rape was not reported court declined Norma’s request for abortion. McCorvey had her baby before the final trial took place. Therefore, making abortion legal would not affect her life at that time. The court issued their decision on January 22, 1973, with a 7-to-2 majority vote in favor of Roe. Now, Norma McCorvey says that she regrets her decision and later became a practicing catholic.
This is a very important topic because my mom was born and placed for adoption in 1974. This means so much because my mom could have easily been aborted, but thank God that scared teenager decided to go through with her pregnancy because she gave birth to a very amazing and successful women.
Abortion is a very brutal process that is traumatizing in so many ways. One way to abort is the Saline Method. During this procedure, a needle full of salt solution is injected into the womb where the fetus swallows this poison while also being submerged in it. This method of abortion burns the baby inside and out, but the death is not instantaneous. The mother delivers a dead or dying baby less than 24 hours later. Another method is the Dilation and Evacuation Abortion. This procedure is done by a pair of forceps being inserted into the womb to grasp parts of the fetus. The teeth of the forceps twist and tear the bones of the unborn child. This is repeated until the fetus is totally dismembered and removed. Usually the spine must be snapped, and the skull must be crushed in order to completely remove the fetus. Dilation and Evacuation Abortion is the most common for pregnancies in the first trimester.
