The objective of this experiment id to identify functional group of organic compounds by performing a chemical tests and to identify an organic compound.

The apparatus and chemical going to be used in this experiments are small tests tubes, beakers, string rod medicine dropper, litmus paper, test tube rack, test tube holder, burner and hose m cooking fat, pentene, ethanol, butanol , t-butyl alcohol , sodium , Fehling’s solution A and B. acetaldehyde , acetone , acetic acid, and dodecyl amine .

Safety and consideration to be aware of are to wear eye protection to protect against splattering of chemicals and possible shattering of glassware. Hydrogen react quickly with any flame and can be explosive. Bromine is a corrosive poison. dodecyl amine is an irritant and should not be breathed or allowed on skin. Finally protect your hair and your belongings from the open flame of a burner.

Facts to know that some part of organic compounds can be identified by simple chemical tests.  Usually the total structure of compound is not identified only the presence of it.  four functional group in this experiment are: unsaturated group, aldehyde carbonyl group, hydroxyl group  and carboxyl group. Unsaturated organic group include one or more carbon-carbon double bonds. There are many compound on the carbonyl group such aldehydes m ketones and carbohydrates.  For this group we use fehlings test to identify the compound. Also there is organic acids and organic basses.  Compounds contain hydroxyl group commonly named alcohols.
