In David Thorea's "Walking", he addresses what he thinks makes a piece of literature engaging and intriguing

Although the subject regarding literature was only a small portion in his essay, one could glean from reading the first few paragraphs, that Thorea highly regarded what he thought wild and uncivilized. However, how that should be displayed in a novel had to be contemplated with extreme care and precision. No one would sit and absorb themselves in a book written by an author who lectures their "wild" thinking as one might compare with a priest preaching in a church. A good author would naturally weave his ideals in his text and resonate with reader through the plot.
