A lot of people are going back to there younger days when all you did was ask

questions. When it comes to being environmentally conscious, many people ask the same three

letter word , why? Why should we turn off every single electronic device after we use it?

Why would I want to take the time out of my hectic day to do that? The answer is to protect and

save our planet. Being a green activist means you care. You care about the fact that our planet is

overheating and that 800,000 people die each year premature because of pollution. Joking

around about environmentally conscious people is very common. They get reffered to as “ Tree

huggers” and hippies. Being eco-friendly means you are aware of the changes around you and

are actually doing something to change the damage. Many people drag there blue bins down the

driveway after coming home from work and see our neighbors doing the same thing. That shows

we are all great citizens out of habit. But do you ever wonder what would happen if you took

it a step further and showed people in your life about the huge difference each individual can

make? There is always a place to start in going green and being more environmentally friendly.

There are terms and definitions that every green activist needs to know to fully understand what

they are doing. A landfill, is a dump or trash site. Landfills take up space on land and lead to

air pollution and water pollution. E-waste, is the act of discarding any electronic appliance.

Electronics contain parts made from hazardous materials and they need to be specially taken care

of when they are disposed. If they are not properly taken care of, the chemicals leak into ground-

water and create toxic air pollution. Recycling is a huge way to go green. It prevents materials

from being wasted and makes new products. Recycling prevents the need for more raw materials

to be used when making things. Recycling saves energy because it reduces the need to Manu-

facture new things. Plastic comes in many different forms and is made from synthetic material

composed mostly of petroleum. Some plastics are worse for the environment then others.

That is because they are made from toxic materials and when these kinds of plastic are disposed,

They release toxic fumes if burned or pollute the ground or water. Global warming is a massive

environmental issue. It can also be referred to as climate change, it is when the earth’s average

temperature rises. Global warming causes sea levels to rise, intensifies storms and weather

patterns, and increase the chances that disease will spread faster and more around the planet.

Pollution is when harmful substances like chemicals, are released into the environment.
