The underlining issue of the case is that Coach P is lack of leadership skill, Why?
- Coach P did not develop a concept of team building within the Varsity team
- In the case stated that the team members in the varsity team did not cooperate very well and very individualistic, where Coach P needs to develop a team building program to strengthen the relationship between team members
- Each team members must create a same perspective to reach the desired goals
- If there is no chemistry among the team members, desired goal will not be achieved
- A team building is crucial in the early stage whenever the team is developed
- Conflict started to occur among the team where from the case stated that each team members started to critique each other continuously which in the end will ruin the bond between each other
- In fact, Coach P had the opportunity to fix things up during the Atlanta retreat
- Coach P should have focused on the entire team success rather than focusing on which team that will have the best rower in 1 team
- He also did not set a clear direction on whatever the outcome would be
- A good coach must be able to set the direction clear whether the team lose or win, they still unite as a team
- Coach P also had to appoint a team captain to empower the team members to show that Coach P trust his team members
- Coach P should not put all the focus on the individual skills because it would weaken the whole team and the teamwork will not be effective
