4. Americans lack health insure because they do not want it.
I completely disagree with this statement. There are many reasons as to why Americans do not have health care, but not wanting it is not one. More than half of uninsured adults say that their main problem is paying their medical bills. The chief obstacles to good health in developed nations are lack of access to good medical care (Kornblum and Julian, 2007: 56). Our health care system has always had many flaws when it comes to accessibility. One of the main reasons as to why health care is unattainable for some is the rising cost for it. The chances of the poor being able to afford health insurance gets smaller and smaller as the rates go up. Not only that, but the poor are a lot more susceptible to illness. The fact that they have little or no money means that they cannot afford to eat healthy food, which in return weakens their system (Kornblum and Julian, 2007: 56). Since they are more likely to be less healthy than the non-poor, they need easily accessed health insurance.
Other countries such as Canada and various countries in Europe, feel that health insurance should be an entitlement of citizenship (Kornblum and Julian, 2007: 57).
