CHINESE CUSTOM

China has long culture and national history. Most Chinese customs and habits are very

different from the Western countries, and some festivals are very particular.

Chinese traditional marriage custom is very different from the other countries. In

Chinese culture, marriage is not simply as a love match between two people, but a big

event between two families also. The wedding has several stages, like proposing,

birthday matching, presenting wedding gifts, picking wedding date and wedding

ceremony. The wedding day is the hottest point. In the morning of the wedding day ,

after a bath with grapefruit, the bride puts on new red clothes and a pair of red shoes,

her hair will be dressed as a married woman and covered by a red silk veil, then wait

for her future husband come to her home. On the other hand, the groom prepares to go

to recive his future wife. He gets capped and dresses in a long gown, red shoes and a

big red silk flower on his chest, with happy music play by the musicans and dancing

lions, the groom will ride a horse and with a bridal sedan chair to go to the bride's

home. The most interesting part is the next stage, the doorstep of the bride' house

heavily guarded by bridesmaids and sisters of the bride. The groom have to do

everything they ask him to do to get a chance to enter the house. After passing the test

and singing for his bride the groom is finally allowed to meet his bride. The wedding

ceremony is the most important part. The groom and the bride are led to the family

altar and kotow to heaven and earth, the family ancestors and parents. And then they

bow each others and be led to the bridal chamber. Then there will be a grand feast for

relatives and the people who help in the wedding.

Mid-autumn festival is one of the Chinese particular traditional festival. In China

Mid-autumn festival is simply named Ў§fifteen of the eight moonЎЁ, in the western

celander, the day of the festival usually comes between the second week of september

and the second week of October. Mid-autumn festival is the festival of reunion

because the full moon is round and symbolizes reunion. All of the family members try

to get together in this festival. In the evening of the Mid-autumn festival, people

will look up at the full silver moon, drinking wine to celebrate their happy life
