Do Not Let Technology Devours Our Life

With the advent of technology era, great changes have taken place in our life. Should we change our social customs and moral values to adapt the rapid technological development? From my perspective, we shouldn’t. The following reasons can support my view.

In the first place, there is no need to develop technology at the expense of changes in social customs. Our social customs are invaluable treasure forged and developed by generation and generation, any deliberate change in our social customs would cause a loss in our cultural identity. Imagining the scene, if people from all over the world change their social customs to cater for the need of technology development, the world would be very tedious and monotonous only with the hum of machines. How terrible it is! Besides, I deem that we should make full use of our social customs rather than changing them. To a large extent, as an essence in our society, social customs are conducive to technology development. For example, those exalted spirits in our social customs, like perservance, patience and ingenuity all can serve as a sort of spiritual motivation, propelling the development of technology.

Secondly, technology is just a means we use to facilitate our life; it can’t be correctly used without the control of moral values. For example, some crazy scientists may invent dangerous nuclear weapons, which would pose a great threat to the whole world. Except for many horrible dangers, our society would plunge into serious disorder if abuse from technology can’t be curbed. In my opinion, blindly developing technology is silly. Human wellbeing is not wholly dependent on advanced devices. Mutual relationships, love from family members or friends are more important than anything. People who live in a primitive society are no less happy than us. Moral values are the core of our society, which distinguish us from animals. Without moral values, our society would go backward, and human beings may perish in the end. So we mustn’t change it under any circumstance.
