A. Imagine you’re inside of your house minding your own business and begin to smell smoke. You step outside only to discover that all the forests surrounding your house are on fire.

B. Believe it or not, every summer in the months of July and August, many European countries such as Spain and Portugal deal with hundreds of forest fires every year.

C. This past July, while I was on vacation to Portugal, I personally experienced the severity of these fires first hand as I witnessed my Grandmother’s house nearly catch fire.

D. We tried to get my Grandmother to leave her home, but when she refused we decided to do whatever we could to save her house although that did mean putting our lives in danger.

E. So there I was standing less than 10 feet away from 30-foot trees that were engulfed in flames. No fire trucks in site for which seemed to be the longest half hour of my life. They did come later on, but if it weren’t for us being there my Grandmothers house would be gone. As it turned out that day, we managed to save her home, but many other people weren’t so fortunate.

II. BODY

A. First method: The four-in-hand-knot. (long and straight but slightly lopsided knot) About 80 % of tie wearers use this method to tie their ties

1. Place Tie around neck…wide end to the right

2. Extend wide end one foot below narrow end (or double distance)

3. Cross wide end over narrow end

4. Bring wide end behind the narrow end (left side to right)

5. Bring wide end over narrow end (right side to left)

6. Bring wide end through back of loop

7. hold front of knot loose with index finger through the knot

8. tighten knot (hold knot pull down on wide end)

9. Bring tie up (hold knot pull down on narrow end)

B. Second method: Windsor knot. (Wide triangular knot usually worn for More formal occasions
