Mini Research Report: Population profile in Macau

Abstract: The report compares the changing population size from 1991 to 2011 in Macau, presents the gender structure of Macau in 2011,and makes a comparison of language ability of Macau people between 2001 and 2011. This report can reflect the present society situation of Macau. And the aim of this study is to investigate the change of Macau during these years.
Introduction
The purpose of this brief report is to identify the changes in the recent decades in Macau. The further purpose is to predict the future of Macau. This report reveals the population growth in Macau,compared with two decades ago. The slightly out-of-balance rate of difference age levels is been revealed in this report. At the same time, Cantonese, the main language used by the Macau people, has a trend to decline,so do Portuguese. However English and Mandarin have huge amount of increase.

The population of Macau in 1991 was 355,693,and it became 552,502 in 2011. The annual average growth rate between 1991 and 2011 is of great difference. The annual average growth proportion of 1991 was 1.90%,while it was 2.4% in 2011.
The gender struture of Macau's population in 2011
The gender struture of Macau’s population is the percentage of male was 48.08%,while the percentage of female was 51.90%. When it came to the child and youth level,the percentage of male is 51.97% differed from the 48.03% of the female. The level of the adult was 47.78% of male,which was slightly less then 52.22% of female. 45.23% of the old generation of male was considerably less than 54.77% of the female.

Language ability of Macau’s people in 2001 & 2011
The main language used by Macau’s people was Cantonese. 87.90% people used it in 2001 and 83.30% of people used it in 2011. The percentage of using Madarin was increased from 1.60% to 5.00%. 7.60% of people used other Chinese dialect in 2001 and the number decreased to 5.70% in 2011. The percentage of people used Portuguese was still 0.70%. But the percentage of English had increased from 1.70% in 2001 to 2.30% in 2011. The percentage of other language increased to 3.00% in 2011 from 1.70% in 2001.
