Choosing a career is one of the most important decisions a person has to make in their life. It is so important because that is what people will have to do to support their selves throughout life. For the past ten years psychology and accounting were two of the top ten potential career choices. According to the U.S. Department of Education, National Center for Education Statistics up to 70,000 bachelor’s degrees in psychology were awarded, and up to 30,000 in accounting all around the United States. These statistics show that psychology is a more potential career choice than accounting. Most students at the time of choosing psychology as a career think in the basic educational requirements, great job satisfaction, and good salary.
The amount of time spent in both careers is almost the same, but psychology and accounting have very different education and skills requirements. Most students choose psychology as a career because it is about experiments and solutions for all kind of problems that have a relationship with mind. Psychology is a field of the social sciences that studies the human and animal behavior and focuses on how motivation, emotion, and thought process function in relation to each other. In the other hand, accounting is about the measurement, disclosure or provision of assurance about financial information primarily used by managers, investors, tax authorities and other decision makers to make resource allocation decisions within companies, organizations, and public agencies. Accounting is all about money and businesses. It is not a secret that most people do not like mathematics, and it is impossible to be an accountant without taking the many essential math classes. Students like more science than math, and it is a good reason for choosing psychology and not accounting. Accountants have many job opportunities, but they just work with adult businesses people. Instead, a psychologist is necessary everywhere to provide help in health and human services, management, education, law, and sports. In addition to working in a variety of settings, psychologists work with people of different ages. By working in many different areas with all kind of people psychologists have a great satisfaction, because they are helping everybody.
The major difference between psychology and accounting is that psychology has to do with people and accounting has to do with money. Job satisfaction is another key point to understand why psychology is a more potential option than accounting. In this society everybody are satisfied helping others. Psychology is a career characterized for treating people problems and for helping them to solve it.
