Should Smoking Be Banned in Public Places

When someone brings up smoking, there is not one positive thought that comes to my mind. Smoking should definitely be banned in public places due to the help it can provide for the smoker, the harm smoking can cause other people around the smoker, and the negative impact smoking has on our environment

First of all, if smoking is banned in public places, it can help the smoker in more than one way. Less places to smoke would mean having to cut down; cutting down can help the smoker eventually stop smoking and avoid the risk of a deadly illness. Even if the person has been smoking for a life-time, once they stop smoking they can reduce their chances of dying from smoking-related illnesses by more than 50 percent. Saving lots of money can also be a benefit to the smoker since they wouldn’t be smoking as frequently.

Another great reason for smoking to be banned in public places, is for the health of others. Many may not think so, but secondhand smoking can be just as bad as actually smoking. Infants who are exposed to secondhand smoking after just being born have a greater risk of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome, which is the sudden unexpected death of an infant during its first year of life.
