The Difference of a Conversation

Joyce Maynard states in His Talk, Her Talk that “It can be risky these days to suggest that there are any innate differences between men and women, other than those of anatomy (26). ” Both men and women have different preferences in having a conversation. Women belief that their conversations are more interesting than the conversations of men. Men and women just do not understand each others way of thought. Men tend to paraphrase what there conversations are about because they like to get to the point while women will give full details. Men and women both talk about the same conflicts they use different styles. Men and women can have a conversation together they just have different talking preferences.

There can be many problems in a conversation between men and women. As Mark A. Sherman and Adelaide Hass point out in Man to Man, Woman to Woman, “First, they may not have much to talk about, and second, when they do talk, misunderstandings often develop that lead to major fights (28).” Men and women like to talk about different subjects and will often disagree with each others ideas. Men and women also often see through different points of view and will not completely understand each others ideas which lead to these fights and misunderstandings causing many problems with the relationship.

Men and women like to talk about things that interest them. Men for example, enjoy socializing about music, sports, television, cars, and current events. As for women who like to talk about relationship problems, family, health, food, the latest gossip, and clothing. There are some topics that both genders enjoy talking about. Topics like sexuality and the other sex. Then there are topics in which both genders will completely disagree on. These topics tend to be on subjects that interest one another greatly. Men love discussing sports and women will completely disagree with them because they have no interest in that topic. The same situation goes toward women and shopping. Men do not want to site around and listen about the newest fashions. This may lead to more relationship problems.

Women enjoy talking very much and a lot more than men do. Women like talking because of the friendships they gain, the feeling of being understood, and the freedom to express their feelings. They get to talk to a friend who will understand and listen. Women tend to think that men do not listen and pay no attention to how they feel. Although men do to care about how women feel they just have a hard time showing it. Men also enjoy having conversation
