These two systems are the next generation of console gaming, and even though they are competing with each other for the top spot, they both share many similarities as well as differences. The easiest seen likeness between these two consoles is that both of them have backwards compatibility. Both The Xbox 360 and The PS3 can play the games of its predecessor. The PS3 can play PS2, and PS1 games. And The Xbox 360 can play Xbox games. Another likeness between the two is wireless controllers. Both consoles have wireless controllers which is a step up from last generation. The last likeness between these consoles is that both of them have online play and an online store. Xbox 360 users are graced with Xbox live which has a monthly fee to use, and the PS3 users get PSN which is free but lacks some features of Xbox Live at this time. Another difference is that the Xbox 360 has the ability to play music from a mass storage device during game play, unlike The PS3. But this is where the likenesses end and the two consoles begin to differ.

There are so many differences between these two gaming behemoths. The most recognized difference is who they backed for high definition media. The PS3 comes equipped with a blu-ray player which has the potential to hold more data then any other format. The Xbox 360 however, has a HD-DVD attachment that can be bought for the console after the console itself is purchased. Also the processors of these consoles differ greatly.
