The year 2007 has been mostly a year of technologies. It all started couple of years ago when wireless internet or Wi-Fi was newly introduced. Since then, the technology market has completely changed and has stepped into a new era; which is an era of wireless and mobile. The article I have chosen discusses about the seven top mobile and wireless trends of 2007. It talks about how the technology has shifted toward mobile and wireless, talks about what made the changes, and finally focuses on the most important trends of 2007.
This article discusses the technology trends in the field of networking. When we think about networking the first thing appears in our mind is wireless networking and mobile networking. That’s exactly what this article focuses on. It wasn’t that long when people had dial up networking for internet. However, in the past, it has all changed though DSL and Cable networking. As people were getting used to that technology, a new technology was introduced which is known as Wi-Fi. That is exactly what has been a hot topic of years 2005 – 2007. Nowadays more and more businesses are stepping into this and trying to come up with something new, interesting, and beneficial for their customers. In 2007 many mobile companies have come out with smart phones which are like handheld computers. The benefits of those phones are to use internet, emails, listen to music, watch TV and movies, have video conferences, use GPS, and most importantly VOIP calls. The new mobile devices will also come with search and discovery features. The Author stated, “Advanced mapping applications tied to the ability to track people carrying cell phones will start to catch on in 2007. These technologies build on the inherent ability for cellular operators to know where subscriber phones are (Haskin)”. Having Wi-Fi available in the area would enable those smart phones to use those features anywhere anytime. Even if the signal is not available, those smart phones would be able to make calls through Wi-Fi Voice over IP (VOIP) feature. These trends are changing the world of technology and will keep on bringing new features as up coming years.
This trend will benefit the technology world of mobility though Wi-Fi trends.
