Allstate was founded in 1931 as part of Sears, Roebuck & Co., and became a publicly traded company in 1993. On June 30, 1995, it became a totally independent company after Sears divested its remaining shares to Sears’s stockholders. Allstate celebrated its 75th Anniversary on April 17, 2006. Allstate‘s headquarters is in Northbrook, Illinois. This company is one of the nation's leading insurers in urban areas and has supported auto and highway safety reforms including seat belts, air bags, and teen driver education. The company has won numerous awards over the years for its charitable and employee volunteerism efforts.
Allstate is the world’s largest publicly held personal lines insurer. It has operations in 49 states and Canada. Allstate sells 13 lines of insurance with auto, property, life and commercial insurance as the major lines. Allstate offers retirement and investment products and banking services. There are nearly 70,000 employees for Allstate. Of that 70,000, 29.4 percent are minorities and 58.9 percent are women.

There are seven types of careers offered at Allstate. They are Actuarial, Agencies, Auditing, Claims, Information Technology, Finance and Accounting, and Investments.
Actuaries play a very important role in developing the property and casualty products that Allstate agents sell to customers. An actuary’s task includes everything from researching new product concepts and product enhancements to recommending and implementing pricing changes in each state. Allstate actuaries use their unique mixture of problem solving, analytic, and communication skills to forecast the costs, expenses and income associated with providing insurance coverage.
Agents are known to operate his or her own business as an independent contractor. By running your own insurance agency, you will have great control over your career and income potential. One can become an agent by purchasing
