Both, "The Interesting Narrative Life of Olaudah Equiano" and "Amistad" are important stories about slavery in pre-civil war america because they both address the issues of slavery. These gentlemen in the story made a difference in the slave trade. In "The life of Olaudah Equiano", Olaudah was sold on a slave ship that came to the Barbados. Olaudah worked for his freedom, and in the end became efficient in American language. He worked his way to the free life and in the end it worked out for him, although it leaves scars on his soul. In "Amistad", Cinque is a slave that leads a revolt on a slave ship after escaping. When they get to america, Baldwin, a lawyer that is representing the slave and the former president Adams helps free the slaves.

Olaudah Equiano and Cinque are similar because they were both slaves that were set free. They both went through the same struggles and hardships in the slave life. Both went through the same struggles and hardships in the slave life. Both men went from being slaves to becoming important icons in history the theme of both stories is similar for they both discuss the horrible conditions of slave life. These slaves were considered low class humans that didn't affect the world in anyway at all. In some respects Joadson is similar to Olaudah Equiano because he worked for his freedom and he ended up becoming westernized. They both thought they were to be killed. "Adams: Do you know what the Supreme court is?, Cinque: The place where they finally kill us." Olaudah: "I asked them if we were not to be eaten by those white men with horrible looks, red faces and loose hair."

In spite the similar themes of both stories there are several main differences between the "Amistad" story and "The Interesting Narrative Life of Olaudah Equiano." Olaudah and Cinque were different in that Olaudah was sold as a slave when his slave ship arrived at Barbados, and Cinque leds a revolt against the crew of the slave ship after escaping.
