Essay title: Ben Cousins Oral Presentation
Ben Cousins Oral Presentation Eddie Ceylan
Good Evening ladies and gentleman, I am Shane Brenan and I am the lawyer of Ben Cousins. I’d first like the press , the AFL and the West Coast Eagles to recognize my client’s guilt and shame. Today’s court hearing has resulted in the termination of Ben Cousins contract, which means that he is no longer a registered member of the Australian Football League. I would now like to apologise for Ben Cousins in relation to his actions off the football field in which has disappointed many including his loyal West Coast Eagles fans. After today’s outcome from the court hearing I am sure that the only thing on Ben’s mind is to get himself and his life back the way it was before these unwanted events. I would now like to take this opportunity to dispute the unfair treatment that my client has received from both the West Coast Eagles and the Australian Football League.
Ben cousins has had from minimum to absolute no support from the West Coast Eagles and the Australian Football League, this had occurred at a time in which Ben needed support from all the people that had been close to him including his current employers. It is clear that the West coast Eagles and the Australian Football League have had enough of Ben Cousins have now decided to abandon him. This abandonment was at a time where Cousins was in real need of help and support, instead the Australian Football League was more interested on its public image and reputation. This lack of support by the West Coast Eagles and the Australian Football League towards my client has been supported by both Stuart Munckton and Graham Dabcheck.
Dabcheck shows his support towards Ben by saying “the saddest thing of this sorry affair is how the West Coast Eagles turned their back on one of their close ones. He won a Brownlow and a Premiership in 2006 and was a favorite of the All-Australian Team. He has been presumed guilty without any chance to defend.”
West Coast Chief Executive Trevor Nisbett has announced that “ Cousins contract had been terminated and there was no chance he would play for the Eagles again.” Once again Ben Cousins has been abandoned by West Coast Eagles, a club that he had played for over 10 years and given his all. Nisbett then described Ben as the greatest player that has ever played for the West Coast Eagles’.
Ben Cousins contract was terminated and he was banned from playing football at the top level for the next 12 months in response to media pressure. It has been claimed that the Australian Football League and the West Coast Eagles have taken action against Ben Cousins largely in response to media pressure.
Critics maintain that the media helped to create the problem and then demanded a response to it. The media targeted my client because of his gifted talent and lifestyle. Giving him a bad boy image and pressuring the West Coast Eagles and the Australian Football League to take action and sack Ben Cousins.
Why can’t people in the media and the Australian Football League just leave my client to be? As he is in need of his privacy now that he is no longer a registered
