Essay title: Database Management
From this class I have learned that there are more then just two database programs. That being said, the company I work for uses one of the more accessible ones, Microsoft SQL Server 2000. Seeing this is for insurance the main uses of the database are for policy creation, policies and written premium. Other uses are help request, change request, and bug reports.
Every person that drives has some form of car insurance, or they should, in the form of an insurance policy. In the case of the company I works for these policies have standard and non-standard clauses in them. The database team has taken the forms and input them into their SQL database. As underwriters create the policy they pick from a list of clauses to be added. Weather it is a Terrorism clause, which is standard in all policies this company writes, or water run off from a farm into municipal water supplies.
Policies are also stored on the server also for easy reference; This allows underwriters to view claims history on policies they have written. They use this as a gauge to renew, or rewrite a policy, in all cases this is used for writing new business. With the database they are able
