Giving constructive criticism to a friend was easier for me in comparison to giving feedback to a long distance classmate for the following reasons.
A face to face communication gives you the ability to adjust your response in real time without the fear of being misunderstood. Some of us don’t take criticism lightly and reading by emotions one can adjust to avoid an escalation.
However long distance feedback is frustrating, especially if there are too many unanswered questions. Issues are not addressed in real time and fear of being misunderstood is great without the ability to explain oneself. I believe ten people can read a passage and come up with ten different views and that’s why I believe long distance feedback can be catastrophic.
