“Foot Loose”

Walking into the theatre I wasn’t real sure what to expect from the experience especially considering the fact that I am a novice when it comes to plays not to mention musicals. However, I had attended a handful of theatrical performances including shows such as “Les Miserables,” “Fiddler on the Roof,” “Little Shop of Horrors,” etc. I have also previously attended a few plays at East Central in the past including the recent performance of “Beauty and the Beast.” So, needless to say I was both curious and interested to see how this adaptation from a classic screenplay would turn out.

Obviously, I was anxious to see how the cast would be made up, in particularly which cast member would take on the role of Ren, A.K.A. Kevin Bacon. (whom I’ve heard can be linked to any actor or actress within 6 degrees of separation.) Regardless, I thought for the most part the cast performed and sang quite well. I was especially impressed with the performance of Willard, Ariel, and Ren. Willard’s humorous personality added with Ariel’s singing, in my opinion stole the show, which was evident by the applause the two received as they took their well deserved bows at the end of the performance. I also felt that Ren’s performance was exciting and believable although I thought the actor could have given Ren more of an edgy and tough demeanor.

Another aspect of the play that was actually pointed out to me was the set. I attended the play with two of my sisters and my parents and they were all very impressed with the detail and color scheme of the set.
