Heart disease, diabetes, cancer, arthritis- the words drift around us daily. Yet usually it's not until a close friend, relative or we ourselves contract one of these chronic diseases that we really reflect on the destruction they wreak. Chronic diseases are diseases which persist for a long time and can't be prevented by vaccines or easily cured by medications. These stay in the body and worsen with time.

Dr. Jerry Nadler, the chief a endocrology and metabolism program at the University of Virginia, he witnesses the health complications related to diabetes, and heart-rending toll it takes on patients and families. The cost of of diabetes and other chronic diseases are equally alarming. The cost of medical care foe people with chronic diseases accounts for more than 75% of the $1.4trillion medical care costs. More than 90million Americans live with chronic illness. Arthritis alone results in estimated medical care costs of more than $22million annually, increasing $82million when lost-productivity is added. An estimated $132billion a year is used to fight these diseases.

But even still there are still solutions close at hand for those who suffer chronic diseases. Simple lifestyle changes are a major factor. About 21million Americans- 7 percent of the population - have been diagnosed
