Essay title: Handy Hands Inc.
Introduction
Description of Service
Handy Hands Inc. is a service-based organization that provides a one-stop shopping option for homeowners’ repair and maintenance needs. We employ hard working handymen who are able to do a wide range of tasks in and around the house. This includes low to medium size home repair jobs and light remodeling but nothing as extensive as building rooms or finishing a basement. The goal of our service is to allow customers to call one company for everything they need. We will save homeowners the time and costs associated with contracting out to many tradesmen for a few simple repairs, and the hassles encountered with scheduling many workers instead of just one.
Pricing
Furthermore, our price is charged by the hour rather than by the job. Therefore, customers can hire our handymen for a number of hours and assign them a collection of small tasks that cannot be priced by the job. We feel that since homeowners have little or no time to look after their homes, we offer a convenient, affordable option for them.
Goals & Objectives
Our personal goals are to gain entrepreneurial experience and develop practical business skills. We would also like to gain some financial independence by working for ourselves and learning how to make challenging decisions. Our financial goals include a return on investment of 20% per member after the first two years from our initial investment of $5000 each. Also, we would like to maximize our benefits to risk ratio: we are willing to take calculated risks, but none that will lead us to personal financial difficulty. Our objective is to build a strong financial base for our company within the first three years in order for continued company growth, including expansion into other areas of Ontario to allow for full-time employment for each founder.
Corporate Capabilities
Human Resources
Having evaluated what is required to operate Handy Hands Inc. we are confident that the five partners will be able to run it successfully. Our strengths include that three of our members have experience in working in small family businesses, and one that has run his own summer business. Also, one of our members has an extensive background in bookkeeping and administrative duties and two members have long service-based backgrounds. Conversely, our major weakness is that none of the partners has any direct experience in the home repair industry. Although some of us have grown up with a family business, we do not have any direct experience in running a permanent venture such as this. However, we are a very energetic and dedicated team and work well together and feel that our experience and personal capabilities will provide us with the resources to overcome our weaknesses.
